LOOPS

In collaboration with the Nederlands Kanker Instituut (NKI), I worked on the STEP-IN project, a research initiative aimed at developing tools and exercises to help physiotherapists guide cancer survivors toward independent training. Our objective was to create a brand identity and app screens that would support this mission, making it easier for both patients and physiotherapists to connect.
We began by conducting interviews and focus groups with cancer survivors, physiotherapists, and their families to deeply understand the physical and emotional challenges faced post-treatment. This insight allowed us to create detailed personas and journey maps, identifying key pain points like fatigue and mental health struggles, and the challenge of transitioning to independent exercise.
After co-creation workshops with key stakeholders, we chose to move forward with a community-based platform that encourages group workouts and educational milestones. I led the branding process, starting with a brainstorm on core values, which helped me create the mood of the app. The final brand identity took shape incorporating soft colors that felt approachable and using the shape of a track field to symbolize physical activity and progress.
Brief:
How can a physiotherapist help a cancer survivor (re)find the confidence and retain the possibilities of the body, even when someone starts to move independently?
